How it all started

I never planned
any of this.

Hi, I’m Andrew. mockups-design.com began as a footnote on a small design blog and somehow turned into my full-time job. Here is the whole thing, in order, with the awkward parts left in.

Since 2014 — online, still here7,100 mockups made by hand100% fun to make, every single one

The chair where most of the files on this site were made. It has seen a few thousand packaging mockups and an unreasonable amount of coffee.

01Early days

A blog, and mockups as a bonus

Years ago I ran a small graphic design studio and most of my work was packaging. At some point I started a little blog for designers — nothing ambitious, more like a quiet corner of the internet where I could experiment and publish small resources. To make it more useful, I occasionally posted a free mockup. A bonus. Not the point.

The bonus turned out to be the point. Designers started writing to me, saying they used my files to present their work. Then messages arrived from outside Poland, from people who had simply stumbled in. So I built a website dedicated entirely to the files. That website is this one.

“I’m a Graphic Design student from Argentina and you just SAVED ME. Every time I have to look for a mockup I get SO frustrated and this website literally made my entire year.”

02Smarty

Then packaging happened

I became completely fascinated with packaging mockups — enough to launch a second site, smartymockups.com, purely for packaging. It was the more advanced, more professional place: large, complex files for commercial use. Over the years I made more than 5,400 of them there — plus around 1,700 studio-style mockups on this side. That number still surprises me.

I ran both sites at once for a long time. But my creative home was always here — the spirit, the freedom, the actual conversations with people using the files. Smarty was valuable, and it lived a separate life. Eventually I admitted I didn’t want two worlds. I wanted one clear place.

A guillotine, a caliper and a bone folder. Accessories like these make me look considerably more serious than I actually am.

03Today

Both worlds, one roof

So I started moving everything here. Many packaging mockups originally made for smartymockups.com now live on this site as free, smaller versions. The full-resolution files stay in the complete pack for people who genuinely need them — but the heart of the project, the openness, is here.

This site is my workshop and my playground. I make every mockup myself, and after all these years the process is still fun. I keep learning, adapting, and trying to build files that put your design in the spotlight instead of the mockup.

The unglamorous half: building the object before anything can be photographed. Nobody downloads this part.

04Still going

Still growing, still fun

The best part is seeing the files used in real work — student portfolios, shelf-ready packaging, full advertising campaigns. If you’re reading this, thank you for being part of that. I hope the mockups here make your work faster and a bit more enjoyable.

And I hope you stick around, because the story isn’t finished and I still have a long list of ideas I haven’t tried yet.
