A bag is really several surfaces pretending to be one, which is why a set usually needs more than a single file. The front is what a shop shows on the shelf, but the side gusset is what people actually see going past on the street, and the two want different things from the design — a full wordmark rarely survives being folded round a corner. Handles cut into the top band, so anything placed too high gets lost, and a paper bag creases as it's carried while a full tote pulls taut. The design has to work across all of that, not just on the flat panel you draw it on.
Material sets the character. Kraft is warm and rough and drinks ink, so it suits a one-colour stamp more than a photo; a coated paper bag takes rich print and sharp edges; cotton and linen have an open weave that swallows thin lines and shifts colour a shade toward the thread. These are how a shop leaves the shop — boutiques, bakeries, bookshops, wine merchants, the merch corner at a gig — and each material moves the artwork somewhere slightly different, which is the thing to check before a run. Seeing your design on the actual bag, front and side, tells you what a flat panel can't.
In the sets: the bag shown front and side, standing and often held, on a clean background, so you can present the design on its own or set it in a scene. Each is a layered PSD with smart objects — the artwork sits on its own layer, so replacing it leaves the paper, weave, folds and shadow untouched.
