It's the format most publications default to, and for good reason: the portrait page suits reading, so it carries anything with real content to get through — annual reports, prospectuses and company profiles, product catalogues, brand and lookbooks, event programmes, menus and price lists. A4 is the full-size version that lives on a desk or in a folder; A5 is the same shape at half the size, light enough to hand out or slip into a bag.
Working in portrait, the page reads top to bottom in a single clean column, which is why it takes so well to text and structured content. There's room for full-page photography on one side and a column of copy on the facing page, and spreads that pair an image with its story the way a tall format does best. It's the safe, familiar choice when the job is to look organised and credible rather than to stand out on a shape.
In the sets: closed on the cover, open on a spread and shot from above, so you can present the cover and an inside spread together. Each is a layered PSD with smart objects — the artwork sits on its own layer, so replacing it leaves the paper, lighting and shadow untouched.
