The size comes from the mail. At 4 × 9 it drops into a #10 business envelope without folding, which makes it the cheapest thing to post that still looks like a designed piece rather than a letter — and unfolded, it survives the journey without a crease through the middle of your artwork. Beyond the mail it stands in a rack, sits in a countertop holder and goes in a bag with a purchase: service and price lists, real estate, tours, gyms, clinics, event and menu inserts.
Being flat means both sides do real work, and they do different jobs — the front has to read from a distance in a holder, the back carries hours, prices, a map, the small print. The proportion is long, a little over 1:2, so it wants one vertical run rather than a page layout: a single image, a short headline, a clear line at the bottom. Two columns at four inches wide come out cramped, and a header that fills the top leaves the rest fighting for a strip.
In the sets: flat from above, held in a hand, standing in a holder and stacked, so you can present it clean or sit it in a real scene. Each is a layered PSD with smart objects — the artwork sits on its own layer, so replacing it leaves the lighting and shadow untouched.
