Three of them come off one Letter sheet with two straight cuts and nothing wasted, which is the whole reason the size exists — it's the cheapest slim flyer an American printer can produce. It also lands in useful places: it stands in a rack, slips into a #10 envelope without folding, tucks into a bag with a purchase and sits on a counter without taking up a counter. Gyms, salons, clinics, tour operators and real estate all run on this shape.
Because it's flat rather than folded, both sides are in play and usually both get used — front to be noticed, back for the detail nobody reads standing up. That's the practical difference from a folded piece, where the back is just another panel. The proportion is long, roughly one to two and a third, so it wants a single vertical run: one image, one line, one call to action, and anything set in two columns will fight you.
