Free flag mockups

Flags cover a lot of ground here. The workhorses are the advertising kind — the tall feather flag that curves like a sail and the teardrop that bulges at the top, both staked into a base or the ground outside car dealers, shops, markets, festivals and sports grounds. Then there are pole flags run up a mast, and plain rectangular flags hung from a bracket or a wall. What they share is height and motion: they're built to be seen from far off and to move, which is how a flag catches the eye where a static sign gets tuned out.

Two things make designing them their own problem. The shape is rarely a clean rectangle — a feather or teardrop tapers and curves, so the artwork gets cropped and bent by the silhouette, and a logo centred as if on a poster ends up warped or half-hidden in the narrow tail. And they read vertically: the eye runs top to bottom, favouring a stacked wordmark and a bold mark up high over a horizontal lockup. On top of that the fabric ripples, so fine detail and thin type distort in the wind — big, simple and high-contrast survives, which is exactly what a mockup in a breeze lets you check before print.
