A signboard isn't a campaign — it stays up. Where a poster or billboard runs for a few weeks, a sign is part of the building, so it's less about grabbing a passer-by and more about identity: the fascia over a shop window, the projecting sign that reads down a street, the plate beside a door, the A-board on the pavement. It's usually the first and most permanent piece of a brand anyone meets in the real world, which is why it leans on the logo and the name rather than a message.
The forms vary more than most categories here, and that's the point — a sign is shaped by the premises it belongs to. It might be a long horizontal fascia, a small square hanging bracket, a circular plate or an illuminated box, each cropping a wordmark differently, so a logo that sits happily in a wide band can look lost in a square. Materials and how it's lit matter as much as the artwork: painted timber, brushed metal, acrylic letters, neon or a backlit box all change the feel, which is why seeing it mounted on a real frontage tells you more than a flat file ever will.
